Print-stitute

For my last hoo-rah at Tyler I devoted my thesis to a passion of mine, which is screen printing. Not only has it helped me pay my way through school but it has given me real world working experience. Print-stitute was designed as a catalyst to introduce people to the art of screen printing and as a way to solve the problem of people not understanding why I wont print them “just one shirt”. Print-stitute is an all encompassing screen printing kit with a digital set of instructions all designed to streamline the at home screen printing experience and give the user their chance to make “just one shirt”.

The Logo

Just look at it. The angles, the texture, the overall funky-ness. The logo for Print-stitute is meant to show off the creativity that can come from screen printing as well as the overall texture you can create with the process.

The Logo Mark

Its a logo mark. I stripped down the logo to its essence and use it whenever necessary. Still beautiful though.

The Inspiration

I wanted Print-stitue to highlight the advantages of screen printing. The texture, the overlaying, and the simplicity. I went for a combination of all those things by using a Saul Bass style of illustration and adding in traditional screen print elements.

The Kit

For Print-stitue a kit full of essential items will be sent to the user so that they can hit the ground running. A number of items where candidates for custom branding so I did just that. Wanting to keep with the accessibility idea the overall design reflects that of the initial logo design with the fun and funk form before.

The instruction app

For the instructions I wanted something with a bit of modern flare. By adopting a digital based set of instructions it allows first timers to easily navigate. It also lets users diving in for another try to quickly jump to a specific section they want to reference.

A selection of very “technical” screen grabs from the prototype. If you want to give this thing a whirl and see all the time I spent making sure my instructions would actually produce results just click here.
